Good purchases share a pattern: the buyer knew what they were getting before money moved. These questions take a minute and prevent most of the disappointments beauty shoppers report.
About the product itself
- Is it sealed, swatched, or used — and how much remains?
- What is the batch code, and roughly how old is the unit?
- Is there a PAO symbol or a printed expiration date?
- Is this the current formula or a discontinued version?
- Is the shade, size or concentration exactly what is pictured?
About the seller
- Where did the inventory come from?
- Are they an authorised retailer, a liquidation buyer, or reselling personal items?
- Do they have reviews you can read outside their own channel?
- How long have they been selling, and do they publish policies?
About the transaction
- What is the exact total including shipping and tax?
- Is the sale final, and what counts as a valid claim?
- How is the item packed — bubble wrap, box, leak protection for liquids?
- What is the dispatch window and the carrier?
- Is payment handled by the platform with buyer protection, or off-platform?
Off-platform payment requests are the single strongest warning sign in beauty resale. Buyer protection disappears the moment money leaves the marketplace.
About your own use
- Do I already own something that does this job?
- Will I realistically finish it before its PAO runs out?
- Does the shade suit me, or does it suit the person demonstrating it?
- Am I buying the product, or the feeling of the deal?
